About Arca Imaging
Arca Imaging is an independent buying-guide site for beginner cameras. We help you choose a first camera without wading through spec sheets.
Most of our readers are buying a camera for family photos, trips, birds or a grandchild's games, and want a plain answer before they spend.
You don't need to know photo jargon. We explain terms like aperture, ISO and sensor size in everyday words.
What we cover
Our guides look at beginner DSLRs and mirrorless cameras, big-zoom bridge cameras, travel zoom compacts and waterproof cameras from brands like Canon, Nikon, Fujifilm, Panasonic and Sony. We also cover first lenses, SD cards and lens cleaning.
Most guides are either a short list of picks for one kind of photo or a side-by-side comparison of two cameras people often weigh against each other.
How we work
For every camera we cover, we read the maker's details, the specs and the features. We also look for patterns in what buyers say after they've used it.
Then we write the guide in everyday words and give each pick a score and a reason. The How we research page walks through the steps.
What we don't do
We don't make or sell cameras, and no brand pays us to be included or ranked higher.
Arca Imaging isn't connected to Canon, Nikon, Fujifilm, Panasonic, Sony or any other maker we mention.
We don't say we've tested every camera. Our picks come from research, and we label a maker's claim as the maker's claim.
How we earn money
Some links on this site go to stores like Amazon. If you buy through one, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you.
That doesn't change which cameras we pick. Our affiliate disclosure explains more.
